The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced that forward Conor Geekie is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury. The 20-year-old went hard into the boards in the second period of last night’s game against the Florida Panthers and left for a brief period. He was able to return to action later on and finished out the game but did not dress for tonight’s second half of a back-to-back against the Panthers. The Lightning don’t play again until Saturday against the New York Rangers, so it is possible that Geekie doesn’t miss any game action, although the details of his injury are unknown.
The 11th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft was a central part of a trade this summer that saw him dealt to the Lightning from the Utah Hockey Club, along with two draft picks and J.J. Moser in exchange for defenseman Mikhail Sergachev.
The trade has afforded Geekie an opportunity in Tampa Bay to play a depth role, something he has responded well to. In 31 games this year, the Strathclair, Manitoba native has posted five goals and five assists as well as 51 hits while averaging 12:30 of ice time per game.
Geekie remains a bit of a project for the Lightning, but he is certainly one of their best young players. The 6’4” forward has made good use of his size this season but still has a long way to go to improve his skating and his balance if he hopes to become a stand-out power forward at the NHL level.

I love CG. Such a competitor. Should be able to have a few good years in the league, and make a difference on the right team.
FeeltheThunder
Should have a few good years in the league & make a difference on the right team? WTH?!?
What in the world are you talking about?…Geeks is going to be a future star in the league. You act like he’s going to be some flash in the pan which is far from the case. He’s going to be a part of the Bolts future. He’s on the right team. Geeks has gone on record that his favorite team growing up was Tampa ironically. You’ll see a significant difference from this season to next season as he’ll be more experienced & will be highly effective as this kid could be a regular 40 goal scorer. Geeks has a very bright future in this league with Tampa.
yeasties
akanda’s a seattle fan. Maybe he’s thinking of Morgan Geekie
FeeltheThunder
Hmm…it’s possible I guess (a bit of stretch) but I don’t know how well versed he is in other teams.
Nha Trang
(nods to yeasties) Yeah. Conor Geekie MAY develop into a star, but right now, he’s showing bottom six production. There’s absolutely nothing in his game or anything he did in juniors to suggest that he’s guaranteed to be an elite goal scorer.
News flash, FeeltheThunder: until they DO it, they haven’t DONE it.
FeeltheThunder
Lol your analysis needs some work dude. Conor Geekie is middle six already, not bottom six. He’s a 1st round pick player who’s learning the ropes at 20 years of age. You say he didn’t do anything in juniors? Really mate?… You may want to think again.
In the WHL last year (2023-2024 season) he played for the Wenatchee Wild & Swift Current Broncos. He produced 43 goals, 56 assists, & 99 points. Didn’t do anything lol? His numbers strongly say otherwise. In addition, he went from juniors to the majors (skipping the minors). Tampa isn’t known for pushing young guys to the front early unless they proven they’re ready. To say, he’s bottom six material is downright laughable dude.
He’s a work in progress, yes, but you’ll see the significant difference between his rookie season to his sophomore season. Tampa knows how to develop talent & their track record shows it.
Nha Trang
I’m saying that what he is, RIGHT NOW, is bottom six. He is tracking right now for 13 goals and 13 assists over a full 82-games. That is bottom six, and if you imagine it’s any better than that, you need to cut back on the drugs.
I also never said that he “didn’t do anything in juniors.” Read my damn words: I said there wasn’t anything to suggest he was guaranteed to be an elite goal scorer. The ones who truly are rack up 50, 60, 70 goals in juniors. A single 40 goal season is nice, but not a bellringer.
Beyond that, there is a very, very, VERY long history of hot power forward prospects drafted high first round and have a single 40-goal season in juniors who never amount to much. You can call them Brett Connelly (why, look, a Lightning draft pick, jumped straight from juniors to the NHL) or Mikhail Grigorenko, Michael Dal Colle or Jake Virtanen, Nick Ritchie or Jesse Puljujarvi, Nolan Patrick or Cody Glass or Ty Dellandrea or Kyle Beach … damn, I could keep this up all night.
aka.nda
Nope. I mean Conor.
FeeltheThunder
Then my stance stays & you’re evaluating is poor.
FeeltheThunder
First off, lose the attitude, man. I’m just talking with you, are you capable of just conversing or is being a sarcastic a** your thing because I have no problem shredding keyboard warriors. So chill out mate.
I read your damn words but clearly you didn’t read mine. I never said anything about elite scorer. Who said that? I didn’t, you did. I said he’s a top six material but that’s doesn’t mean he’s going to be a first line elite goal scorer guy. He’s potentially second line material. You don’t need to be a 50, 60, and 70 elite scorer in order to be a top six guy. If that’s the case, then no one in the league truly rosters a full top six by your so-called standards.
According to Pro Hockey Group, Geekie is currently listed as a third line guy. However, him playing on the second line with Hagel & Cirelli who are 2 of the best two-way players in the league bar none will significantly help the 20 year old learn the ropes & gain experience in his development. Geekie has been projected to be a top six/middle six prospect in his career.
Geekie in juniors also had a 35 goal season the year before his 40 goal season. Geekie can easily be a regular 30 to 40 goal scorer which would make him a top six player. He’s already showing he has a good hockey IQ which will only get stronger.
Also, as for Brett Connelly, yes, he was a bust (every team has them) but that’s not just on the team but the player failing to adapt in the NHL. Potentially comparing Geekie to Connelly theoretically is rather grossly misguided if that’s your point. Furthermore, Connelly was drafted by a different management group as well. Tampa historically develops talents quite well overall, better than most. So, Geekie’s trajectory stands to be quite high.

Spencer Knight stuck his leg out on Geekie which got Geekie injured. It looked like an intentional trip as Knight went outside the line to kick his leg out on Geekie. But of course, the refs didn’t do anything yet again against the shady & dirty tactics of the low-ball Panthers.
Bucky76
Love the hit on snot bag Matthew Tkachuk by Kucherov then the baby crawls off the ice then returns typical.
Our cup runneth over
Kucherov is a coward. Hope he is suspended for that cheap shot. No place in hockey for stupid s*** like that.
FeeltheThunder
Coward?!? WTH are you talking about?
Tkachuk intentionally ran into Kucherov then acted like he was hurt real bad but yet was back in the game in 5 minutes. Give me a break! Tkachuk is a low-life scumbag & did it just to attempt to get Kucherov out of the game (Kuch was running all over them prior in the game) but the plan backfired badly on the Panthers lol. You’re right there is no place in hockey for stupid s*** like the tactics Tkachuk pulled.
Panthers are a shady & dirty team & when they flat out lost, they were sore losers in the end. A.J. Greer doing a cheap shot at the end of the game after getting embarrassed on several occasions in the game (dude is a full-fledged idiot) & then Paul Maurice making excuses post-game. Panthers are sore losers.
urban schocker
Panthers are really a scumbag team of dirty players.
