July 4: It’s a one-year, $2.8MM deal for Roslovic, the Canes confirmed Thursday morning.
July 3: The Carolina Hurricanes are making strides in repairing their forward core as several players recently left the team on the free-agent market. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports the organization will be signing forward Jack Roslovic although no financial terms of the deal have been confirmed.
The Columbus, OH native was originally brought to the NHL after being selected with the 25th overall pick of the 2015 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets organization. Roslovic spent one year at the Miami University (Ohio) before turning professional for the 2016-17 season. Roslovic broke into the organization with 13 goals and 48 points in 65 games as a rookie for the team’s AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose.
After another impressive start to the season in the AHL, Roslovic became a full-time member of the Jets partway through the 2017-18 season. Over 180 games in Winnipeg, Roslovic scored 26 goals and 67 points while playing in a middle-six role before the team moved his signing rights to his hometown Columbus Blue Jackets in the deal that brought Pierre-Luc Dubois to Winnipeg.
Moving into a second-line role with the Blue Jackets, Roslovic experienced the most productivity in his career up to this point. In three and a half seasons for the Blue Jackets, Roslovic scored 51 goals and 146 points in 206 regular season games. The team failed to make the playoffs throughout his entire tenure in Columbus and decided to part ways with him this past year by shipping him to the New York Rangers in exchange for a conditional fourth-round selection in 2026.
Returning to the Stanley Cup playoffs after four years, Roslovic provided solid play for the Rangers as the team ended their season in the Eastern Conference Finals. While averaging 13:51 of ice time over 16 games, Roslovic scored two goals and eight points during New York’s postseason run. Due to the major loss of talent in Carolina over the last several days, Roslovic should find a spot in the team’s middle-six on the reported contract.

Decent pickup considering what’s left on the UFA rack.

This is either going be a massive steal or a massive bust…Jack is very fast but doesn’t play defense…BrindAmour either found another Jarvis or will get way to frustrated with Jack

The window is closing quickly on the Canes.

I’m not a Canes fan but it’s closing faster than normal because Canes management is oddly run by a committee consisting of the GM, 2 Assistant Managers, & the owner. The GM doesn’t have full say which is the only team in the NHL that does this unusual systematic structure. It’s the equivalent of having 4 chefs in a kitchen as there is too much ingredients being thrown together. You can’t have long-term success with how the franchise is currently run.
It’s why Canes had to hire their new GM from within because former GMs of other teams didn’t want any part of that type of organizational structure. Can’t blame them either for not wanting it.

Do you work for the canes? Haven’t heard this stated publicly but it’s consistent with the owner.
FeeltheThunder
No, I don’t work for the Canes but I actually heard about it several times during the whole GM situation about the Canes. When I heard about how things were run in the Canes organization I found it unusual but it reminded me of how the Dallas Cowboys are currently run in NFL. They both have very hands on owners which isn’t typically a good thing but some owners just can’t help themselves despite it being potentially detrimental to the team.

You’re pretty much spot on, dundon definitely draws comparisons to Jerry Jones. The rumor is they will hire a president in the upcoming weeks so the gm doesn’t have as much responsibility. They certainly don’t conduct business as usual, but luckily Justin Williams and Rod Brendamore are there to keep things in line.
My issue isn’t with the structure, it’s with the contracts negotiations. Dundon seems to drag his feet too much. Far too often he’ll arrive at a number that’s agreeable, but it’s just too late.
All this being said, six straight playoff appearances so, if they can streamline what they’re doing and get better at negotiations the future is bright.

I’m a Canes fan and this is spot on. There were many reports out there that GM candidates were staying away from the job due to the committee approach. Also agree that this is not a good thing. They seem to be able to make a good team and what team wouldn’t want to be a playoff contender year after year, but it will not produce a cup team.
Pepe501
Yep! He needs to just tell the GM (or committee) that their budget is the cap. Let them make the decisions on 95% of the players. A lot of owners get involved in long term high AAV deals, so that wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary.

Maybe the Canes strategy is to use their many assets to trade for a star player? There were a lot of lengthy contracts given out to players that will be bought out in five years.
Corndogs
Who do you think’s going to be bought out? They just passed on their opportunity to buy out kk a few weeks ago. I don’t sense Dundon has any desire to have dead cap, he wants to spend to the limit.
uvmfiji
Buyouts by other teams. Guentzel and Skjei for example.
SteveC
@corndogs: I assume uvmfiji meant “… a lot of lengthy contracts given out… ” around the league, but after rereading it I could certainly be mistaken. I just don’t see many regrettably long contracts on the Canes other than Kotkaniemi’s

LOL
The comments are priceless. So much misguided thought.
The Canes system has taken them to the playoffs 6 times in a row.
Test:
How many 1st time coaches have taken their team to the playoffs in their first 6 years? And, won at least one series in all 6 years?
How many owners have had their team in the playoffs in their first 6 years of ownership, after 9 years of failing to make the post-season?
Dundon’s ownership has turned the franchise around, and hiring RBA as Head Coach was a key part of that.
The management by committee functions well in Raleigh.

I am a Canes fan, and slightly worried, but at this point I owe it to this organization to trust in them. There will be plenty of time to complain later if things dont go well lol.

Sign Jakub Vrana to a two-way contract. Sign Carter Hart.
