The Stanley Cup Final is upon us, the first domino has fallen in the coaching shuffle around the league, while the draft and free agency are now less than a month away as the offseason activity is almost upon us. With that in mind, it’s time to run another edition of the PHR Mailbag.
Our last mailbag was broken into two parts. The first included a look at New Jersey’s goaltending situation and the chances they’ll move the second-overall pick, Toronto’s early playoff exit, and Barry Trotz’s contenders (one of which is now off the table). Meanwhile, the second looked at what’s needed for Ottawa to take the next step forward, the second-line center situation for the Rangers, and what Seattle should be doing this summer.
You can submit a question by using #PHRMailbag on Twitter or by leaving a comment down below. The mailbag will run on the weekend.

Who will be the Wild’s primary goalie for the ’22-’23 season?
User 318310488
Is there any updated information on Oskar Klefbom? Playing next season? Retiring?
MoneyBallJustWorks
thoughts on Sweeney being canned and ending up in Vegas?
Nha Trang
I’d ask “What the hell were the Bruins thinking?” except that everyone in hockey knows the answer.
Johnny Z
So does Blashill have the inside track on the Florida coaching job?
Sunshine
How do they keep track of TOI for all the players in a game? It seems like an impossible job!
Johnny Z
the chip sewn in the back of the sweater
Sunshine
Ah. Thanks.

Do you think Shane weight gonna go first overall and if not who do you see the habs taking
Johnny Z
Maybe Shane WRIGHT will go 1st….

Are there any opinions on how teams are using the LTIR for propuses adding to the roster to better the team, instead of what the LTIR was intended to be used for as a way to replace an injured player on your roster if you team was maxed out and LTIR allowed the team to go past the High end cap threshold?
Thomas merante
I believe the Sabres are in a goaltending mess, Portillo won’t sign, Levi is years away from playing (if he even makes it) and UPL is injured way to often to be looked at as a Number one, thoughts on who theymay target in FA, thanks
Detroit_SP
Which player with the highest AAV / GAR / WAR do you think gets traded this off-season in a NON-cap dump move? Or in another form, which player most towards the upper echelon of players gets moved in a “hockey trade”?
Johnny Z
Predict the unpredictable: What is Stevie Y’s big move this summer? Example: What LD vet does he find? Will he bolster the C position? and with who? Does he get Larkin extended under $9M? What veteran goalie does he get?
The Duke
In an attempt to give it a summertime break of sorts, just a simple Crystal Ball prognostication: Now that the dominos are beginning to fall, exactly where does John Gibson play in October? OK, one more little one: With Ellis healthy and Sanheim’s stock rising, does Ivan Provorov play elsewhere next season?
Sunshine
Ah. Thanks.

Is there anything to the rumour that Pastrnak wants out of Boston?
If so, could a trade be built on the basis of Pastrnak for NJ’s 2022 #2 draft pick? Obviouly, NJ would need to add a couple of A pieces… that may include their 2023 1st round pick and an A prospect?
Gbear
It’s July and Gbear has won the lottery and bought the Preds and fired David Poile. I’m bringing in Brian La Rose to interview for the vacant GM position. What moves would you make this off-season and who are you taking with the #17 pick of the draft? :)
met man
Now that the Rangers have been eliminated, what do you think is the first thing that they address?
Coyotes1
Hello, What players will the Coyotes try to acquire this off-season to reach the cap floor? I’m think JVR, Carl Hagelin, Brett Connolly, is there other players they may be looking at? I know there’s rumors that they talk to Vancouver Canucks about help them out. What surprise team do you think could be looking to acquire Jakob Chychrun? Do you think the price has increases to get him? What do they do with Shayne Gostisbehere he did have rebound year, should they trade him or keep him? Thank you and have a good day!!!
wreckage
Chychrun has 1 season of .5PPG or better, 2 seasons of at least 60 games played, and only 2 seasons as a + player. And all his stats took a hit last year. His value is not as high as many would expect, especially not what coyote fans would expect.
sabres3277
What do you think the Sabres should do about the goaltending situation? Trade two of the three first rounders etc. to acquire a high end veteran goalie, John Gibson? or give the the job to UPL and sign a veteran backup?
Thomas merante
i can’t see them GIVING the job to UPL he needs to play a long strect of games IMO to prove he is worthy of an NHL goaltender, he has to many injuries. I truly believe they are in a world of hurt at the goaltending position.
pawtucket
JT Miller gets traded. If yes, to what sort of team and for what sort of package
If no, which of Horvat or Boeser goes and to what sort of team and for what sort of package.
BOSsports21
Piggybacking off a couple B’s questions already – the Bruins need a teardown and rebuild. It’s not something B’s fans want to hear, but they have only a couple good prospects and no cap room. They weren’t really a Cup contender this past year and now they want to bring in a younger coach. If you’re the GM, do you sell off as much as you can to obtain assets? I feel Pastrnak and Marchand will not be the same w/o Bergeron if he retires. Even if he comes back, it’ll probably only be for a year. Mind as well get good value for Pasta and Marchy to re-stock the bare cupboard. Thoughts?
Nha Trang
I hate to even think it, but if the Bruins do decide to tear it all down and rebuild, Marchand would have enormous value on the trade market. The last seven seasons he’s played himself into the Hall of Fame, he’s one of the best left wings in hockey, he remains a beast in the playoffs, he’s showing no signs of slowing down, he’s signed to a very team-friendly contract for three more seasons … and he’s not likely to be around at the back end of a teardown-and-rebuild.
And this is not a young team. If we’re looking at impact players who’ll still be on the right side of 30 at the end of a three-season rebuild, we’re talking just Pastrnak, Carlo, DeBrusk, McAvoy and Swayman.
MoneyBallJustWorks
Please explain all the Murray to Toronto “rumours”. doesn’t seem to make sense to me
Johnny Z
Some have the Flyers being interested in acquiring DeBrincat, what would that look like?
Nha Trang
Far more than Philadelphia has available to pay, for sure! DeBrincat is a 23 year old elite star, and no one’s getting him for a mere first rounder, some prospect and a third-liner.
Johnny Z
Yeah,, that is what I believe, thus the question. It seems very far fetched, but then there is the Fletcher equation.
gowings2008
Any idea who the Red Wings may target in free agency? Based on the direction the team is headed, I think adding a player like Andre Burakovsky could make sense.
Johnny Z
I would prefer Nichushkin! But he will be three times busier with offers.
Y2KAK
Three peat or avs?
RipperMagoo
What would be the Goals per Game average be if they gave goalies regular sticks or no sticks?
Gbear
I dunno, but their goals and assists totals would skyrocket! ;p
pawdog13
what have you heard about the Redwings coaching search? crickets everywhere!
bigalval
What are the chances of the Kings landing Filip Forsberg He might be the last missing piece and him and Avirdisson are close.
Gbear
IMO, the fact that he still hasn’t signed with the Preds is a good indication he’s going somewhere else. Kings are the likely destination.
Though I could see a classic Poile move here in getting Forsberg to sign just before UFA time starts and make it look like he made a big UFA splash without actually adding anything new to the roster.

How come when I make microwave popcorn, I can never get every kernel to pop?
Nha Trang
… because Don Cherry drained all the water out of those kernels, because he hates you!
