After acquiring Hampus Lindholm from the Anaheim Ducks earlier today, the Bruins appear to be closing in on an extension with the talented defenseman. TSN’s Chris Johnston reports that Lindholm is expected to be signed to an eight-year extension that carries an AAV of $6.5MM. No official announcement has been made just yet.
Lindholm was acquired earlier today along with minor league defenseman Kodie Curran in exchange for defensemen John Moore and Urho Vaakanainen, a first-round draft pick, and two second-round draft picks. The Bruins had been linked to just about every high-profile left-handed defenseman leading up to this trade deadline and it appears they have not only acquired their man, but are in position to sign him to a long-term extension too.
The Ducks had been trying hard to extend Lindholm leading up until this trade, however talks did not progress, seemingly over Lindholm’s desire for an eight-year contract, and Anaheim’s reluctance to go to that length.
More to come.

I can’t believe they gave up that much for a RENTAL!!!
What’s that, he’s signing an extension?? Must have been the previous post about acquiring him where they said nothing about trying to sign him to an extension.
What’s that again? Oh they mentioned in the previous post the Bruins were working on an extension yet many people were freaking out he was a rental and they gave up so much capital.
You’re trying to tell me reading comprehension is a problem on the internet or people are too lazy to read an entire post before commenting? Say it ain’t so!

“Working on an extension” has been said so often that it doesn’t bear much weight. While we’re talking about “reading comprehension.”
And by the bye, one could have signed Lindholm in July without giving up so much as a used skate bag, let alone several high round draft picks. While we’re talking about common sense.
And speaking about common sense, no one with any signs a guy (who isn’t, say, Cale Makar) to eight years at north of six million, let alone someone who’s ALREADY FREAKING 28. Have you learned nothing from the many, many, many times max term is haunting teams now?
So yeah. We can’t believe they gave up that much of an overpay for a rental, and we can’t believe they’re compounding that by handing him max term and a star’s salary, but we CAN believe that this will be one of those salaries the Bruins will bitterly regret needing to buy out four years from now. Thank you for playing, and you get a copy of our lovely home game.

Nothing against Lindholm because he’s a good player but I think this is an overpay at the wrong time for the Bs. As much as I hate to say it, Bergy is 36 years old… top-line center is going to be a need sooner rather than later and they already need a 2nd line center. Maybe Bergy takes a paycut to retain Pasta who needs a new contract after next year and then they let DeBrusk walk and fill his spot with a rookie to make the numbers work, but not having a 1st rounder this year and your next two 2nds will really hurt replenishing the system at a time where it’s crucial to be building that internal depth.
Who knows what will happen in the next couple of years though. Maybe Studnicka and Beecher pan out. Maybe they ship out guys like Grz and Coyle for assets or to free up cap space. All I know is that more moves are coming and it’s going to be very interesting to see Sweeney’s plan play out.

Well, 8 x 6.5 is better than 8 x 8. I hope he age well.
