The Department of Player Safety has a busy day, as both Brad Marchand and Marcus Foligno now have hearings scheduled for incidents that occurred last night. Marchand in particular appears likely to get a long suspension, given he has been offered an in-person hearing. That gives the league the ability to suspend him for more than five games, though does not guarantee that outcome.
Marchand’s incident happened in the final seconds of last night’s Boston Bruins-Pittsburgh Penguins game and included a punch and a high stick on goaltender Tristan Jarry. It resulted in a match penalty which automatically comes with a review from the DoPS and now could bring a hefty suspension. Marchand obviously has a long history of supplementary discipline including a three-game suspension for slew-footing earlier this season.
Foligno meanwhile is getting a hearing for kneeing, but not the variety most will be used to. The incident occurred with Winnipeg Jets forward Adam Lowry already on the ice after a fight, with Foligno on top of him still trying to continue the scrap. The Minnesota Wild forward received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in addition to the fighting major.
Often, in-person hearings–which are currently held over Zoom–take more than a day before a suspension is handed out. Marchand’s does not yet have a time or date set. At the very least, one can assume that he won’t be available in tomorrow’s match against the Carolina Hurricanes. (UPDATE: Marchand’s hearing is set for this evening.)

3 games for Marchand, 1 for Foligno.
goalieguy41
It will be 5 or more if it’s a in person meeting. Read the article

You read the article, “though doea not guarantee that outcome”
goalieguy41
6 games idiot
DarkSide830
rough time for Bruins fans

Five games Marchand acts like a clown when he should be acting like a leader…

I walked away from the TV after the empty net goal and missed this incident. Came back and wondered what on Earth led to a 7 minute power play.
That’ll do it, I guess.
Marchand is still my favorite non-Pen player, though.
Bucky76
Great player but someone or something needs to change . I know that’s his style but man come on be a better player and role model…
Pax vobiscum
Maybe he can get some advice from Tom Wilson.
VonDooche
Im sorry, was anything in here about Tom Wilson or are you just that damn salty that anytime someone who isnt named Tom Wilson does something dirty that you hafta drag his name into the convo?
MacJablonski--NotVegasLegend
@Pax vobiscum – I think he already did! With that crap, he’s probably telling the 43-Train, “Your turn!”
VonDooche
What isnt to love about a guy who has no problem constantly injuring players through dirty, cheap plays. OMG i fell head over heels when he delivered a flying elbow to Johansson, who was out months, while their homer refs do like they always do and ignore his bullshit and the league decided, a couple game slap on the wrist should teach him. Or his constant massive slew foots, can easily lead to convussions and brain damage. That pussy ass POS shouldda been booted from the league before ever having a 100 point season
SkidRowe
Best LW in hockey right now. He’s on track to have 6 consecutive seasons with more than a point per game. Plays on the power play and kills penalties. Will even drop the gloves when necessary despite the fact that he is small and not much of a fighter.
Johnny Z
10 games for Rat face and 1 for Marcus.
SkidRowe
10 for what? A jab and a poke with the stick? Jarry wasn’t even injured.
Robertowannabe
He punched the goalie in the head from behind a good 5 seconds after the whistle. Was not in the course of the play. He then waits another 10 seconds and spears the goalie in the facemask with his stick. Again not in the course of a hockey play. Appears Marchand appears just to be upset that the goalie had the nerve to stop his shot. Both complete cheap shots that served no hockey purpose. Should get 10 for that given his history.

Has everyone forgot what hockey was like back in the 80’s??!! What he did last night wouldn’t even register on a honorable mention list of bad things or penalties that occurred during the game. Sick of all you snowflakes out there bitching about how “dirty” he is. I wish more players played on the edge like that, especially star players which is what he is, whether people want to acknowledge it or not. It would make the game better, more rivalries, etc… nobody even hits anymore let alone fights, and yes I’m happy they removed the clutching and grabbing to let skill players shine but they also removed the physical aspect of a physical game. Football is starting to trend that way too, you touch a player and it’s a penalty. Soon they will make QB’s wear flags so you can’t touch them at all anymore. I’m not a get off my lawn old grumpy guy wanting the return of goon hockey but seriously, more players do more to avoid contact rather than lay a simple hit to slow players up along the boards or in the corners, everyone tiptoes around each other. It’s sad to watch really. By today’s standards because of his previous suspensions he should get 3 games max. Should only get 1 if that but he has a “history” of playing in the wrong decade. He should have just gotten the unsportsmanlike penalty.

80s hockey was great. That being said, Marchand’s antics aren’t like Ken Linsman or Dale Hunter. He’s all about playing head games and back then you dressed more than one enforcer to deal with guys like that. I think today’s NHL created Marchand rather than him being a throwback. He’s a small skill player that will lick your face.
PQW
If it looks like a rat face, it IS a rat face
Nha Trang
Well, no kidding it isn’t the 80s any more, and it isn’t the 40s, either, or the 20s, or any other era. I’m a huge Bruins fan, and Marchand’s a great player, but hacking Jarry as the linesman is dragging him away isn’t any kind of “physical aspect of a physical game,” and you bloody well know it.
VonDooche
Yeah, how dare any of us give a shit about the health and well being of other people. We should all just be POS like Marchand and root for injuring the other guys, damn their personal lives and lasting health problems. Youre bragging about being a POS, so cool you are
Weasel 2
Is Marchands dirty play actually effective? Or would he just as great if he didn’t take cheap shots?
As a fan he’s the type of guy you love on your team and hate on an other team.
But as much as admire his play he seems like he has poor control over himself.
sportsman238
I’ve always been of Marchand and the hard nose attitude he has for the game but something like this is disgusting. Regardless of what jarry said to him you can’t be waving your stick at somebody’s face. A veteran leader like Marchand is I would expect much better class from him.
PQW
Oh Rat Face you pussy. If you’re gonna fight someone with a stick, why not the stick boy. Man up chicken sh!t
Double IPA
Specifically stoping Jarry from giving the puck to a fan….that was funny as hell.
Bucky76
Six games wow I though maybe more..
Robertowannabe
Was thinking the same. Considering both his infractions were well after the whistle, should have been more.
