Last night, after a scary hit that sent him to the ice unconscious, Chicago Blackhawks forward Jujhar Khaira was taken to a nearby hospital and monitored overnight. After extensive testing, he has been discharged and returned home. The Blackhawks have announced that though he suffered a significant injury, Khaira is expected to make a full recovery. There is no timeline for his return to play.
The hit, which was delivered by Jacob Trouba of the New York Rangers, did make contact with Khaira’s head, but also drove directly through his core. It was not penalized, but Trouba did end up fighting Riley Stillman soon afterward.
Chicago has made several roster moves following the game. Mike Hardman and Philipp Kurashev have been recalled, while Wyatt Kalynuk and Ian Mitchell have been sent back to the AHL. Mackenzie Entwistle, who was on injured reserve, has been activated and sent down.

That was not a good sight to see last night, the hit looked legal as it was delivered as Khaira was looking down at the puck between his legs. I wish him a full recovery.

That was a very clean hit !! That’s the way hockey should be played

Happy to see that he will be ok. Very scary moment but the hit looked clean. You could see the concern from players from both teams.

He may be “O.K”short term. But long term…..time will tell. This was his 3rd documented concussion and looked quite severe

Trouba lined him up and drove his shoulder through his jaw while he wasn’t looking. That play is only legal in NY through the eyes of a Rangers fan.
cubbiemike
Definitely not a legal hit!

When is Trouba’s hearing with the NHL Dept of Player Safety?

Hopefully soon

It was a clean hit

Not a Rangers fan, actually was a fan of Juhjar while he was an Oiler and that hit is 100% legal. JJ’s head snaps back because his forward momentum gets stopped so abruptly. There is a reverse angle view on Twitter where you can see Trouba’s elbow is tucked in and point of contact is shoulder to shoulder.

Clean hit. Head way down. No way to deliver any sort of physical check without some head contact. Elbow was tucked in, feet on the ice. Trouba was probably setting up for some sort of ‘bump’ when Juhjar looked back down between his feet…
Textbook clean hit with an unfortunate outcome.
Adios pelota!
Yeah I’m in agreement with the clean hit people. Obviously the outcome was bad but, that’s why you keep your head up. Wish him a speedy recovery cause the head snapped back pretty bad on that.

Unfortunately Juhjar’s career might soon be over. He went down at least a couple of times last year with concussion protocols. So this does not bode well. Have always been a fan; big Surrey kid makes the NHL is the Canadian dream story.

Unfortunate outcome. Great hit. If it’s too violent for you then soccer may be more your speed.
