Nov 3: Drouin is doing well this morning according to head coach Dominique Ducharme. He has not been diagnosed with a concussion at this point, though he’ll be re-evaluated tomorrow and is currently listed as day-to-day.
Nov 2: Montreal Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin left Tuesday night’s game against the Detroit Red Wings after taking a puck to the head and has gone to the hospital for further evaluation, per the team. Drouin will not return to the game.
A shot from the point hit Drouin in the head while he was standing in front of Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic, knocking his helmet off as Drouin immediately crouched to the ice and skated off under his own power. The nature of any potential injury is unknown at this time.
Drouin, who was away from the Canadiens for the end of the regular season and entire playoffs on a personal leave of absence, is currently Montreal’s leader in points with seven points in 10 games. It’s a promising start for Drouin, who’s broken the 50-point threshold twice in his career.
If Drouin is to miss any time, he’ll be the fifth regular who’s currently unavailable due to injury or personal reasons. It’s incredibly tough luck for Drouin, who’s shown immense fortitude in battling back to be the team’s best producer.
The PHR team sends out their best wishes for Drouin’s health.

The last thing this poor guy needs is to be in concussion protocol right now. Hopefully, he’ll be back on the ice soon.

Hope he recovers quickly , always enjoyed his play in his early days. Habs can’t afford to have anymore players out ,they are far back in standings as is.

same thing i thought when i saw this. just a really unfortunate turn of events.

@DarkSide830 – I was listening to the TSN 690 side when it happened, and it made me cringe.

@G – Well, it took awhile (games-a-plenty), but most of what was said in the video was already known in some circles. Marek on SN590, OverDrive on TSN 1050 with C.J., and other interweb radio commentators have been stating much the same for the past several days now. What was interesting on Emily Kaplan’s Twitter page was a very telling entry from our man, Frank The Tank Servalli, aka The Silver-Haired Millennial. I listened to the Bettman/Daly dog-and-pony show live and had my usual aggravation with their apparent phone issues. Unbeknownst to me, however, was that there appeared to be NHL-caused sabotage when trying to get Rick Westhead in to ask questions. He was stiffed, and Frank & Company didn’t take kindly to that crap. Here is the link — link to twitter.com
And, thanks to Kyle Beach’s courage, the Pittsburgh mess has been brought back to the surface.
Kinda sucks being alive during one of, if not the worst, scandals in NHL history, doesn’t it?

“Kinda sucks being alive during one of, if not the worst, scandals in NHL history, doesn’t it?”
Keep in mind, it is only a scandal because it was called out. It is probably… likely…. 99.99% probable that this shit has been going on long before you were born.

@G – It looks like the NHL is going to need a bigger fan after all the incoming crap hits it, eh? Dollar Bill may need to get a mess of asbestos underwear now. It will be interesting to see what they determine Mario’s involvement was, if any.

As KAR said, this stuff is nothing new. Daniel Carcillo and Garrett Taylor came forward about a year ago with similar allegations stemming back from before the stuff Kyle Beach endured.

That article also mentions Eric Guest who claims to have been locked in a bathroom and forced to do cocaine while a member of OHL’s Kitchener Rangers when he was 16 and a junior hockey coach in Chicago being called out for sexual assault last year from back around the same time as well.
Then of course, the infamous Theo Fleury/Sheldon Kennedy situation everyone now knows about. The likelihood is that this has been going on for a very long time and there’s probably sexual abuse scandals still going on right now or in the past that have not been called out yet. Of course Bettman and Daly don’t want the PHWA asking questions. They know they don’t have adequate answers to those questions. Even the NHLPA has looked the other way on this stuff.
Human beings are human beings no matter where they are. Sexual abuse in kids sports is pretty widespread. You can look and find these kinds of scandals with lifeguards, in schools, universities and in people’s homes. It’s one of those human problems that doesn’t seem to have gotten much better over the decades. Who knows when it will?

@KAR 120C – “Long before I was born”? Try long before ANY of us were born, as in the time the NHL has been in existence. Now, though, the crimes will be brought to light and prosecuted, instead of covered up. Many of the other abuses were racial and psychological abuse, which were ignored. I’m well aware of all of those cases you mentioned. They still count, too.

Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Tape an aspirin inside your helmet and get back on the ice for your next shift, Nancy.
