Montreal Canadiens’ first-round pick Logan Mailloux won’t be starting the year with the London Knights after all. The OHL has handed Mailloux an indefinite suspension for violating the league’s “expectation of the appropriate conduct of an OHL player.” He can apply for reinstatement to the league on or after January 1, 2022 and a decision on his reinstatement will be based in part on his conduct since returning to Canada, the appropriate treatment, counseling, mentoring, and or education he receives from the date of today’s decision.
Mailloux, 18, was charged with taking and distributing an offensive photo without consent during a sexual encounter last year while playing in Sweden. He attempted to renounce himself from the 2021 NHL Draft, issuing a statement asking all 32 teams to not select him, but the Canadiens used the 31st overall pick on him anyway.
At the time, Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin released a statement explaining that though they were aware of the situation, the team would make “a commitment to accompany Logan on his journey by providing him with the tools to mature and the necessary support to guide him in his development.”
When Mailloux attempted to renounce himself from the draft, he indicated in a statement that he wanted to return to London and play a season with the Knights while demonstrating “an adequate level of maturity and character.” He will no longer get that chance, at least through the end of the calendar year.
Murphy NFLD
Can he sign in Europe
Puckhead83
He would have to be loaned, I assume.
Danny DeKeyser
What a joke! Just looking at the wording of the statement you can guess theres no such a rule to be violated. Its just pure politics. Ok then. Better of in ahl or europe. Show the rulers of the clown world what youre made of kid. Keep on punching!

C-Daddy
The guy distributed a nude pic of someone without their consent. I believe in second chances but the guy clearly deserves a severe punishment.
Darryl Rose
No he didn’t.
She wasnt nude.
I don’t condone his actions in any way but the reality is Sweden is arguably the most gender equal nation on earth and this was a $1600 fine. I think he has paid his price. He is now seen internationally as a monster.
And now he is being punished once again.
What he did was send her picture and say this is the woman I had sex with. This is the 2020 version of a teenager bragging about having sex with a girl and identifying the girl.
I guess he was the first OHL player to ever brag about having sex.
And again I don’t condone his actions but let’s keep it in perspective.
wreckage
The guy distributed pictures of the girl smoking his pole and then posted her FB profile pic to identify her. More than just sending her picture.
Darryl Rose
Agreed. But she wasn’t naked.
wreckage
The guy isn’t eligible for the AHL because of thr North American agreement. And most Euro leagues have an agreement in place to honor N. American penalties. Kid is going to have to rest for a while and show remorse for his actions.
Gotta wonder in the OHL would have acted this way if no one drafted him as he requested?
jdgoat
Honestly, wouldn’t be surprised if that were part of it. Bergevin should be ashamed of himself for doing that after he requested not to be chosen this year. There was no reason whatsoever for any team to do that to him.
Ducey
What he did was send her picture and say this is the woman I had sex with.
Hey awesome. Nice work lying about the facts to support your argument.
He showed his teammates a picture of him and the girl engaged in sex.
If he did that to my daughter he would not have to worry about playing anywhere at anytime. He would have a much larger problem, if you know what I mean
Darryl Rose
Interesting question. I think this became a huge international story when Montreal drafted him and as a Habs fan the part that offends me the most is they drafted him in the first round when he was projected as a third round talent.
If someone took a flyer on him in round 5+ I would have less of an issue with him being drafted. Personally I wish the league had notified all teams that he was NOT to be drafted.
Frankly that would have been better for him and the girl.
wreckage
He was projected as a late 1st, early 2nd round pic by most scouts. Personally I believe if a person chooses that they wish to not be selected, they should be exempt. If I were Mailloux, I would refuse to sign with Montreal and sign somewhere with less of a hockey spotlight to try and get away from this storm
wreckage
I haven’t seen the pics to know if she was nude or not. But either way, she was engaged in an adult situation and should not be subject to the after affects of what he chose to do.
Darryl Rose
What I said was correct. He shared her picture and said he had sex with her. As the next poster pointed out the picture did show them having sex which I agreed with.
I didn’t lie. I misremembered all the details.
But she was not naked. Apparently you were ok with that misrepresentation of the facts.
And if it was your daughter no doubt you would want to deal with the jerk but you may also spend 30 seconds asking her why his p###s was in her mouth when she just met him. He had been in the country for 3 days. I understand she is mortified about her reputation being besmerked but the first line of defense in your reputation are your own actions. One should never rely on a 17 year old male to be honorable and he is paying the price for being a horrible guy.
Darryl Rose
Of course not. No one is defending his actions. We all agree what he did was wrong but there are different degrees of wrong. He was a minor. She was an adult. It was consensual sex. He didn’t use a date rape drug. He didn’t molest a child.
Again this was a $1600 fine.
Meanwhile Vancouver released a player accused of sexual assault and Mailloux has 10x the international coverage for what in reality is a minor crime even in Sweden. If this happened in Canada his identify would be protected since he was a minor.
And no – in no way do I condone what he did but let’s keep this in perspective.
Darryl Rose
I remembered differently so I googled it and found this
Rankings
NHL Central Scouting: B-Level Prospect
FC Hockey: 64th
Dobber Prospects: 100th
Smaht Scouting: 66th
You may use different sources but before he removed himself from the draft I thought he was a 3rd round prospect and I thought the knock on him was he was somewhat unknown given the level of competition he played against.
So he was big and showed promise but it was hard to judge him vs those who played in better leagues.
Gbear
@Darryl Rose – I’m glad you brought up the conduct of both people involved in the “act” that took place. Call me old fashioned, but the act that took place is what I’d be more upset about if I were either of their parents. Posting pictures of it is the dumb part to the immoral behavior.
Darryl Rose
I understand people have a right to do as they please and men and women can choose to be as sexually active as they like. It’s not my place to judge them. And I know in Sweden women are pretty progressive sexually. So I don’t want to sound like I’m blaming her for what he did but I am responsible for my actions. And she is responsible for hers and if your reputation in the community is truly important to you then it’s your responsibility to protect that reputation through your actions and inactions. And frankly if you give BJs to virtual strangers at some point your reputation is taking a hit.
Again I’m never going to condone his behavior but the punishment is disproportional to his actions.
Darryl Rose
In additional to what I posted earlier central scouting B. I downloaded the list. He was 64 making him an early third round prospect.

According to the link provided by the author of this post Mailloux ranked:
2021 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #50 by TSN/Craig Button
2021 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #58 by McKeen’s Hockey
2021 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #35 by TSN/McKenzie
2021 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #23 by NHL Central Scouting
Late 1st – late 2nd projections.
And I don’t think anyone is saying the kid should never be given an opportunity again. Just that he needs to take some time and mature a little more, like he requested. I don’t blame Logan for much of this, I blame Marc Bergevin and the Montreal Canadiens. If they honored his request and the rest of the league did so too, this would be a non-issue.
He was attempting to do the right thing and accept responsibility and take a year to mature and prove he is growing into more of a man than a boy. The Habs ruined that. Hopefully with his time off he uses it wisely and proves to everyone he is more than just a hockey player and makes to changes to grow as a man.

Logan Mailloux has no endorsements yet.
Check back in 2039 and it will remain unchanged.

1000%. I would be facing criminal charges if it was my daughter.
Darryl Rose
I told my daughter years ago that 20 years is a very short time.
In hindsight I should never have told her that because if she was ever assaulted she would likely keep it from me. And that’s a moment a dad needs to be there for a daughter.

“Treatment”? Are they going to apply shock therapy to his neurons?
But seriously, what the kid did was naughty, but watching these virtue signaling zealots crawl over each other to prove they out virtue all others is pathetic. Maybe we should run a fine tooth comb thru their perfect lives and see what we might find.
66TheNumberOfTheBest
Exactly.
What could be worse than “virtue”?
Gbear
Fake virtue. That’s what.
66TheNumberOfTheBest
Faking virtue is not good.
Openly rejecting it in any form is worse.
Danny DeKeyser
Virtue is not set in stone. Otherwise we would not have this discussion
Gbear
No one is rejecting true virtue, certainly not me. But fake virtue should be called out whenever it shows up.
Redone
When I read Treatment I was thinking he did not rape her so what treatment does he need?
66TheNumberOfTheBest
If they want to make an example of him, send a message and have him spend a few months getting intense help, OK, so be it.
If it goes beyond that, it will indeed turn the red herring of cancel culture into a broken clock moment. He’s a kid. Literally couldn’t sign a legal contract when he did this.
Also, had the shoe been on the other foot, I simply do not believe anyone would try to punish her to this extent, possibly at all.
Danny DeKeyser
Its all a STORY because of how screwed is the world that we live in. Its excruciating to watch the crowd demanding to hang a kid by his balls for doing stupid and applauding looting and burning cars and buildings at the same time while facing no consequences. Lets just pretend its all fine
jdgoat
Danny it sounds like you’re letting outside factors cloud your judgement of this. He made a stupid mistake and he deserves a punishment. Nobody wants to see his career end before it starts. But actions have consequences, and he’ll have to make amends before he is given the privilege that so few are given. To act as though he’s the victim here is a pretty warped view. At least that’s how your comments are coming off.
Get pucked
Warped is an understatement
Danny DeKeyser
Maybe your view is pretty warped? Have you ever fancied such a thought? Actions have consequences? Yes. Would it be the same if it was her and not him? I sure no one would have heard about it. How warped is that you judge?
Darryl Rose
But it wasn’t and I think your red hat may be a bit too tight. We are commenting on actual events and you want to discuss a made up scenario.
I have no doubt the law in Sweden is not gender specific.
Are you condemning his actions or condoning it? Is it ok for a man to do this because someday a woman might?
jdgoat
I don’t know what you’re trying to argue. A crime is a crime lol. I’ve never heard it being discriminatory towards gender. If your argument is that it would generate less news if it didn’t involve a professional athlete, yes I agree. That’s pretty obvious, im sure there is lots of idiot out there who have also found themselves in this situation.
Darryl Rose
I think he’s saying he wants to make America great again AND if a woman distributed pictures of a man it would be a non story.
jdgoat
Idk there’s no reason to get political for the sake of being political. It’s a cancerous mindset in my opinion. Hopefully we can have real conversations without going down that rabbit hole. I do think that clouds way too many peoples judgement around here though.
wreckage
Consequences are not determined by IF’s. There is no IF in determining a punishment by a court/judge. The IF was IF he did the action. It was determined and admitted to that he did. Therefore a consequence shall be determined. There is no IF she did it what would be the consequence. It’s strictly now a this + that = consequence. No this + that – if. The final answer is dertmined by absolutes, not possibilities.
Danny DeKeyser
So wearing a red hat is now bad huh? Eat your cereal and dont forget to wipe your mouth after youre done.

A. Judge
I’m getting sick and tired of the absolute judgment coming from the social left woke cult. They are so quick to identify, charge, judge, and execute people these days. One of the contributing factors is media, and that includes social media where everyone and anyone has an opinion. Then you have Corporations and Organizations such as the OHL concerned about being singled out for not taking a proper stance. I support the Montreal Organization for taking its position and outlining their intentions. I also support the young man for his public apologies and repentance. Let’s move forward and see how this plays out. Don’t ruin his entire life for one mistake.
Redone
Not all of us on the left are like that.
backhandinbaptist
The problem with all of this IS the fake virtue, the self-righteous hypocrites who want to crucify this kid almost as if he molested a child. Get real. If we want to get technical it was he who was the child! I don’t condone what he did but the problem is the sexual activity in the first place. Remove the immorality and there’s no problems. That’s not a popular opinion but I will say this, there is a set in stone virtue and that is Jesus. The Bible. I know I will catch a lot of flax for this but I think it’s quite peculiar how people have no problem with Homer’s Odyssey which has around 50(?) Original manuscripts left. Nobody questions it or who wrote it or it’s content. The Bible the New Testament has somewhere in the are of 4000 manuscripts with very minute textual variants that in no way affect it’s meaning. The point of stating that, is to those who have had their eyes opened it is Gods word immorality needs to be erased. It’s destroying North America and Europe and if you look at history the falling of almost every historical power was the decay of moral society. So to you virtue signallers who want to hang this kid let’s look at the society who created this kid and our own immorality. Enough of the self righteous garbage. Romans 3:10 “There is NONE good no NOT one. They have become altogether worthless.” You want virtue then follow JESUS CHRIST the LORD.

Whether you believe he is real is irrelevant, friend. If the Bible is wrong, if Jesus lies and actually isn’t God, then throw the book out it’s worthless. If what Jesus said IS true and He IS God as He claimed to be, you’d best get on your knees and repent my friend and trust in Him and believe Him. He is merciful to forgive you of your sins. If you won’t I truly hate to think of what your eternity will be my friend. @Gbear it’s nice to meet a fellow believer on here. I got that by a lot of the values you were standing for.

yeah, see, they say they want to have the kid get “treatment,” but who are they to be the ones to say he needs it? he’s made it darn clear he knows what he did was wrong and even tried to avoid getting drafted in response. once again, not condoning what Logan did, but this seems to look like solving a problem that isnt there anymore to be fixed. if this is to make an example of him? i hate that carp, and those involved better remember they did this.
Danny DeKeyser
Youre King!
wreckage
The Habs say they took him at this pick and think they can “fix” him.
There is nothing to be fixed. He made a mistake as a kid. Nothing serious. He made the correct moves to show remorse. The Habs screwed him. He asked for time to show he understood his actions and wanted to show he understood he acted in a poor manor and wanted to show some remorse, the Habs would not allow him to show that. Another team may have made that pick in the 30s-40s or beyond, probably would have. But making that pick at 30 puts it on the Habs. They screwed up, and hurt the kids future by doing so.
If he was taken in the 3rd or 4th round it may have been something under the radar. But they took him in the 1st round…. no cool. Not when his actions were still under pressure.
