Somebody go check on Wild to see of they have a pulse.

Wild did not have any cap space. Need to trade salary for salary. Billy G also did not want to give up draft picks or younger players before expansion draft.

The Wild better have enough fire power to take down Vegas in the first round. You see when the Wild beat the Avs 8-3 last week their announcers said word for word that they were disappointed this is their last matchup with the Avs this season. If they fancy it, who are we to let them down.

Per the article, Zach, I give Colorado a biased A+. Dubnyk was necessary to give Gruby rest before the playoffs without jeopardizing a top 2 seed. Joe elected to go with depth guys that knew the system in Nemeth and Soderberg. Joe kept his 2021 1st which will be Seattle’s in a couple months to keep the core intact. I’d have lowered this A+ if Sakic grabbed more enticing players for two reasons. 1) he’d have had to give up more in the way of draft compensation, and 2) less likely Newhook and Sampo get called up.

Absolutely an A+ for the avs.
The one thing they couldn’t do was take on a player with term, and, predictably, they didn’t.
They got a decent depth piece in nemeth, who will fill in when young players are struggling or have tough matchups postseason.
Bringing soderberg back is a smart move at 1 mil. He has played in the system and can hold the fort playing up in the lineup if needed, a fantastic bargain for a depth piece.
And there’s no question about dubnyk being a huge upgrade as #2.
I’m curious why you would think that Seattle will end up with that first rounder. I think that whoever they snag in the expansion draft is going to serve as cap relief for this squad.

@M34, they’ll select Toews. You can only control 3 defenders and that’s gotta be Makar, Girard, Byram. It would also mean Newhook and Sampo don’t get called up for the playoffs as they’d become pieces to control. Joe’s all in, he’s already moved his 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th in this years draft for this team. All of this leads me to believe Joe trades his 1st rounder to Seattle.
M34
I believe that Byram, Newhook and Ranta are all exempt. But a protection slot will have to be used on EJ, meaning either toews, makar, or Girard is left exposed.
Joe really needs to find a way to get out of the Johnson contract. I don’t know that you necessarily need to spend that 1st rounder though.

I think that blow to the head EJ took a few months ago ends his career. I read a rumor on MileHigh saying he’s suffering from similar post concussion issues that Lappy had with the lights and the ice. I’m thinking Joe kites his salary on LTIR next year.
I’m saying 1st rounder because it’s rumored Ron Francis will only accept a bounty that large to allow teams to work with him.
