Like Evgeni Malkin this morning, the Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that Zach Aston-Reese recently underwent surgery. The forward underwent a procedure on his left shoulder and is expected to miss six months. That likely means Aston-Reese won’t be ready for the start of 2020-21 training camp, though the exact start date of that season is still subject to change.
Aston-Reese, 26, has been a stable presence in the Penguins lineup since soon after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2017. The college star from Northeastern has played in 117 NHL games over the last three seasons and though he doesn’t bring a ton of offense, has chipped in enough to maintain a role in the lineup.
He signed a two-year, $2MM extension in the summer of 2019, meaning he’s still under contract for the 2020-21 season at a reasonable price. That doesn’t guarantee him a spot with the Penguins given GM Jim Rutherford’s recent comments about change, but it’s going to be tough to move him for full value as he deals with this rehab.

He was really bad. As in I was ready to see them jettison him bad. Will give him the benefit of the doubt due to injury.
When they are right…he, Blueger and Tanev are a perfect fourth line.
Tells you everything you need to know about what Sully thinks of Evan Rodrigues that he’d dress a hobbled ZAR over him.

Yep exactly never understood it. I thought we shoulda fired Sully. It’s becoming what happend with Bylsma. ZAR is going to be gone for sure.

And it shows that you’ve never once been at a practice. And you prove as much In one line you say when they are on they are perfect. Then say it shows about Sully that he would dress ZAR. You completely contradict yourself.
If sully blew up every line cause they weren’t working you’d have new lines every game. I mean seriously silly comment. M

I’ll respond with my best guess as to what you tried to say…and try to explain the same thing I already wrote…
When they are on (meaning when they are good) they are a perfect fourth line. They were not on (meaning they were not good). ZAR was trash. And evidently, he was hurt. Despite ZAR being trash and hurt, Sully still chose to play him over Evan Rodrigues. Which means he thinks a broken and useless ZAR is still better than a healthy Rodrigues.
There literally cannot be a contradiction as I made only one point per person or line combo…
1) That ZAR was bad in the playoffs.
2) That when all 3 of ZAR, Blueger and Tanev are good, they give you exactly what you want from a 4th line.
3) That Sully thinks Rodrigues blows.
And if you’ve ever watched a game, you’d know that Sully does switch his lines almost every game. Sid himself has said he has no idea who his linemates will be from period to period.
“I mean seriously silly comment.”
PS- Been to roughly 100 Pens practices, scrimmages, training camp days, etc. but not sure what that has to do with the point you tried to make.
TJECK109
I made my point. That it’s obvious the 4th line has chemistry with ZAR that it does not have with Rodrigues. You want to blame sully for a decision on the 4th line by inserting Rodrigues over a guy he’s comfortable with. Yeah sully does switch up lines every game if they aren’t working in game.
I mean Geno had surgery and he was trash in the playoffs too, I mean really shows how out of tune Sully is. Forget ZAR getting hurt, you could pick just about any one you wanted from that roster in the 4 games that at one point or another shouldn’t have been replaced. Upset over ZAR but not others like marleau? ZAR at least showed he could play with his line.

When did I blame Sully for anything? Go back and read.
