Here’s a rundown of some of the original content here at PHR over the past week.
With arbitration hearings getting underway, Zach broke down some of the procedural aspects of a hearing before diving into Jacob Trouba’s specific situation. They had quite the gap between the two filings with the team submitting a $4MM figure while Trouba’s camp suggested $7MM. The arbitrator opted to split the two down the middle, awarding a one-year, $5.5MM deal earlier today.
Gavin’s Thursday night chats have returned and the discussion included the Coyotes and Ducks plus a look at feasible trade destinations for Carolina winger Jeff Skinner and defenseman Justin Faulk.
Our free agent profile series continued with a look at a pair of veterans. I examined the potential landing spots for defenseman Toby Enstrom as he looks for another place to play as well as why center Mark Letestu still finds himself available despite being a fairly productive bottom six player in recent years. On a similar note, Zach reviewed center Antoine Vermette’s situation; despite a report in late June that suggested there was significant interest in his services, he remains on the open market as well.
Offer sheets have seldom been used for a variety of reasons and at this point, it seems unlikely that one will be signed again this year. While it’s often top players that are speculated as candidates, Zach makes the case for Penguins goaltending prospect Tristan Jarry to be targeted for one. As the offseason progresses, there will likely be talk around the league about some prominent players being candidates although it’s unlikely that an offer sheet will actually come to fruition.
