Joshua Ho-Sang hasn’t had the season many were hoping for this year, and he doesn’t really think it’s all his fault. Ho-Sang has played in just 22 games at the NHL level, scoring 12 points but spending most of the season in the AHL once again. He spoke to Arthur Staple of The Athletic (subscription required) about it, and was quite candid in his approach.
I love those guys, I want to make that clear,” Ho-Sang said of his former Islanders teammates. “I know they’re working hard. But I got sent down for defense and what are they in goals against in the NHL? I only played (22) games up there this year. I don’t think it’s my fault. They really painted it like it was my fault at the beginning of the year and I didn’t like that.
Obviously there is more than just defense in the critique of Ho-Sang’s game, and Staple does a wonderful job breaking down what has happened between the two sides, including quotes from GM Garth Snow. It’s a very interesting situation to keep an eye on, as Ho-Sang has all the offensive talent in the world and is still an important part of the Islanders’ future.
- Carey Price won’t play in the upcoming World Championships, instead focusing on his health and being ready for the 2018-19 season with the Montreal Canadiens. Price has had a tough season battling through injuries, and putting up the lowest save percentage of his career at just .902. About to start an eight-year, $84MM contract, he’s the key to any potential Canadiens bounce back next season and down the road. Brendan Gallagher also won’t suit up at the Worlds, while Alex Galchenyuk is still weighing a decision.
- Also from the staff at The Athletic, Scott Powers reports (subscription required) that Ian Mitchell will not turn pro this summer and instead is expected to return to the University of Denver for his sophomore year. Mitchell, 19, was selected in the second round by the Chicago Blackhawks last June and excelled in his first year for DU. 30 points in 41 games easily led the club’s defensemen in scoring, and he should take another step forward next year to be one of the nation’s most dangerous offensive blueliners.

Ho Sang should wear 00 not 66.
He’s a bum and a punk. At no point has it ever occurred to him that he might have to earn his success.

I don’t see you playing for the Islanders. So you really can’t say anything, sometimes it’s not all on one player, sometimes a group of players. The islanders as a whole have played terrible. Other teams for example the blackhawks, the oilers, the list goes on have played terrible not only because of injuries but players constantly being inconsistent.
Hockeysense93
Maybe a Bennett for Ho-Sang type of scenario? Both are having trouble succeeding on their teams, but both have huge upside potential.
Hockeysense93
Who played with Hamonic? Boychuk? How about Bennett, Brodie and 4th round for Ho-Sang, Boychuk, and Flames 1st round back (providing it’s not top 5). NYI get a top 6 LW that they need and a pretty solid 2-way defenceman. Flames would get the right shot RW they covet and a pretty solid d-man that can compliment Hamonic. Picks would offset draft potentials of both players (most likely 10-15 first rounder.
wreckage
Someone here is a Flames fan. Bennett is no more than a 3rd line RW. Even in Calgary that’s where he is. And NYI rw depth is even deeper with Bailey, Eberle, and Beavullier occupying the top 3 rw spots. Brodie is coming off a BAD year and most flames fan are clamouring to get rid of him, his value is low. And the Islanders are not trading a lottery pick back to the flames to help make up for Calgary’s stupidity in the first place.
Hockeysense93
For one thing…Bennett is a centre with “LW” strength. Brodie has 8+ years of a career when Boychuk is maybe 2 years away from done. Bennett was still a 4th overall pick in a deep draft for a reason. Ho-Sang doesn’t want to be there. A 10-15 first rounder in a shallow draft year is far from guaranteed. The odds of the Islanders getting 2 high picks next month is next to nil. Plus the point of Ho-Sang being any better then Bennett is still a few years away from even being a determination lol. A hockey trade is a factor of being great on both sides, or a wash on both. There is nothing showing that either side would have an upper hand at this moment.
Hockeysense93
Plus I was meaning after the balls are drawn already…which would put the pick (in all likelihood) in the 10-15 overall. Far away from a definitive lottery ball lol

This post moot and void as you’ll see in my follow up. But to reiterate…. all teams who miss the playoffs are lottery teams as of this season.

Ps. In my opinion you’re an complete moron, idiot, and POS for lowering the communities IQ for anything you have breathed into this convo that anyone has read.

Ok ok ok my friend. You want to discuss these points…
Your first. Bennett is a C with LW “strength”… when was the last time he regularly played C? He’s actually listed as their 3rd RW on most websites listing the flames depth.
2nd. Brodie has 8 years vs Boychuk 2 years left.
While yes they are about 8 years separate in age… they both came into the NHL about a year and a half apart from eachother. They have taken on about the same amount of damage. And stats can prove one is a better defenseman than the other. Brodie has 32 points in 73 games as the team’s 2nd line offensive defenseman, but is -16 This year and was -16 Last year. Nice points but don’t mean squat if he allows more than he’s on for. Boychuk has 17 points in 56 games this year and is +6 on the 2 years. On the same 2nd pairing. But hes +11 on brodie this year on the worst defending team in the nhl.
More comparables to Mr #4 Bennett to Ho Sang? Drafted same year. So your comparison of “deep draft year” vs “weak draft year” is invalid. Flames are 3 spots ahead of the Islanders in draft position, so yes the Islanders are getting at minimum, 2 top 12 draft picks, unless they trade up. So yes… 2 premium ( or as you put it “high draft picks”) are happening and as I stated before, Nhl draft rules now allow for all teams that miss the playoffs to be a lottery team.
If you want to compare players let me know… I can show that Bennett is a bigger bust than Yakupov. But hey, a Flames fan gotta flame.
Hockeysense93
Excuse me?! You first call me a friend and then let loose a personal attack for just putting out an opinion? lol
Ok…for one…the hockey sites that you are looking at don’t add up and you should find better ones. I have never seen Bennett listed as a RW anywhere, and while watching hockey for awhile…have never seen him on the right side short of maybe an injury. He was actually placed at centre only a couple games ago lol. Regular time at centre? I guess that would not be since October 24th when Jankowski came up. Sure he’s having a tough time scoring, but he’s only 22 and some players develop slower. He’s a prima donna (kind of like Ho-Sang) that has been told that he is the best all his life and needs to figure out a way to play off the third line lol. He scored at a 1.34PPG in juniors…Ho-Sang scored at 1.14PPG with exactly twice the games. That’s at least an extra year of being overdeveloped and obviously heads above the competition. Bennett didn’t do that because he was to good for juniors. If I’m correct on this? Ho-Sang is playing in the minors at this moment? Bennett has never played in the minors. Bennett had a solid rookie year…Ho-Sang (although pretty solid) has been sent down lol. RW is a lot easier to sift in with good centres (Tavares, Barzal, Nelson) then a centre sifting in with bad wingers (ala Brouwer and Lazar). Ho-Sang has past problems that comes with baggage and a questionable attitude. Bennett although not always happy with his deployment is at least professional about it. You’re right….why would the Flames trade a (still) potential at only 22 that has played in the league for 3 years straight…for a cancer in the locker room that still can’t crack the lineup.
Hockeysense93
On the draft deal? You are an idiot…lol. I was doing speculation on the point of the balls already being dropped and positions in place. This takes place next month. Now as the rules go the Islanders have a 6.5% chance (providing a 7th place ending) to score 1 of 3 top positions. The Flames pick gives them a 3% chance (providing a 11th place ending) to score 1 of 3 top positions. If either of this balls don’t drop…then the rules are plain and simple “Those teams not selected in the lottery will be assigned picks #4-15 in inverse order of regular season points”. So providing the ending of the season…that means the Flames pick in all likelihood will be the 11th or 12th pick. Now what I meant on comparison between a “deep draft” and “shallow draft”? 2014 was considered a very deep draft with good talent from the first pick all the way up to the 30+ pick. This year is considered to be quite the shallow draft. Beyond the top 3-4 players….it could be a crap shoot. All GM’s know this…hence why BT traded his first and second rounder without much problem. It doesn’t mean it was overly smart…it just means that this draft has very low guarantee anyways lol.
Hockeysense93
Now on the point of the defensemen?? Brodie has struggled sure…but he’s still young. I would hope that another few years experience would rectify some of this shortfalls. Boychuk is a better defensemen per say…but he’s older with more maturity. That’s what happens lol. Now for a defensemen to be affective in his late 30’s? Unless your a crazy specimen like Chara or Lidstrom or players like that? Father Time is going to take a factor no matter how many games you may have actually played lol. Boychuk is showing that his body is already breaking down. Hence a couple more affective years if healthy. Brodie is by no measure a terrible defensemen…he needs to mature more. BUT he has a lot more time then Boychuk to do this lol. It’s also funny how some players excel in positions and flounder in others. Brodie was a top flight up and comer when playing with Gio…but hasn’t been the same since with others. So wouldn’t that mean that his potential is there…it’s just about deployment? That’s also another story with this coach here…Gully? It took him a year and a half to figure out that Hamilton needs to be on the first PP unit…and maybe just maybe Bennett on the PP in front of the net instead of Brouwer haha.
Hockeysense93
PS…let me guess Wreckage…you are American and from New York to boot??
I am one of many Canadians that laugh and shake our heads at how ignorant people like you are. How POS idiots like you give the rest of your hard working, open-minded, happy go lucky brethren a really bad name.
To get political…it’s people like you that cause the rest of the world to hate Americans they way that they do.
Congratulations…you made a point abundantly clear “again” for the rest of us lol
Let me guess….you DID vote for Trump didn’t you?? hahahaha

Actuallt I live in Calgary smart guy.
I’m guessing you’re one of the mouth breathers that voted for Notley in the last provincial because “we needed change.”
A quick search shows Bennett listed at:
Lw per rosterresource.com
Lw per cbssports.com
Lw per Rotoworld.com
There’s the top 3 sites on Google per a roster depth search.
22 isn’t really young anymore in sports. You generally know what you are by then. Yes there are exceptions to the rule and usually defensemen and goalies take a little longer to show what they are. Bennett has shown what he is. A middle 6 winger at best. Most likely 3rd liner. Ho-sang has shown that he is most likely a 2nd line winger but doesn’t give the effort in his own end so he keeps getting sent back to work on his defensive game. Thick skull and doesn’t get it tho. By comparison Bennett has a .375 career PPG. Ho-sang has a career .512.
Bow to get into your Brodie talks…. Brodie is 28 in 2 months. The nhl prime is generally 25-30. So Brodie is exiting his prime. And is showing signs of decline already. 2 consecutive years of bad +/- numbers show he is not responsible enough in his own end. And a d first man is what the Islanders need more than another offensively minded one.
As for this being a shallow draft you are completely wrong. Dahlin is the consensus #1, but then there are numerous guys who could go 2-10 easily. Svechnikov zadina Tkachuk boquist Dobson wahlstrom Bouchard and farabee are all considered top end guys. Sure none are considered the next Mcdavid Crosby Ovechkin or Malkin but they’re considered top notch prospects. Treliving traded away all his picks because he thought the flames were immediate contenders and not still a project.
Take off the flames tinted glasses and look at your trade from a neutral position and take into account team needs. Brodie + Bennett does not equal Ho-sang + Boychuk + 1st round (possibly top 10) pick. Also remember other gm’s know the flames are fairly desperate to get back into the top 2 rounds and it gives the others an advantage.

And sorry for listing your buddy Sam as a rw originally. I meant as a winger in general as he’s not playing centre anymore and hasn’t this season.
Hockeysense93
My deepest apologies on calling you an American…Trump lover lol. Being from this province…you obviously know about economy killers (Notley). To tell you the truth I moved to the Hat partly to get as far away from that government as I can haha.
Hockeysense93
Yes I am admittedly a Flames homer with hope going to the upswing lol. You know first hand what Gully is (and isn’t) doing with the team. My thinking of Brodie going from a consummate top line defenceman to a goat from one coach to the next is more glaring then some like to admit. It’s also quite obvious that Bennett was pushed up to quick and not really put in a position to succeed properly. That’s on the Flames and him as a player. I just think that it’s still a little early to write him off yet, but time will tell. He is just too talented a player that really does work hard. Putting him in the Yakupov conversation is a little pre-mature, but time will tell. Is he actually gonna turn out to be productive or go the rout of say Legwand? A good journeyman for the next 10 years or so haha. You do leave good points on the table for sure…but I believe it’s not the whole picture. Guess the next year or two will answer all questions lol.
