The NHL Draft Lottery will take place on April 28th in Toronto, where up to 15 teams will hope to see their name move up the board to select in the top three. Up to, because the New York Islanders currently have two selections in the lottery after acquiring the Calgary Flames pick last offseason.
The official odds to select first overall for each team as follows:
31st in NHL: 18.5%
30th: 13.5%
29th: 11.5%
28th: 9.5%
27th: 8.5%
26th: 7.5%
25th: 6.5%
24th: 6.0%
23rd: 5.0%
22nd: 3.5%
21st: 3.0%
20th: 2.5%
19th: 2.0%
18th: 1.5%
17th: 1.0%
The odds for the second and third pick increase proportionately, based on who is selected.

NYI with 2 chances, albeit small…to get a top 3? Good going Treviling for pushing all the chips in lol. Start of the season…Flames looking to sport a great defence with a good goalie and some great talent up front, to make some noise in the playoffs. NYI hating their home, most likely losing their franchise player, and looking to be one of the worse teams in league. Months later…NYI will have a new home and 2 lottery picks to convince franchise player to stay. Flames?? Well let’s just say that the season didn’t work out as projected haha

Forgot to mention that Flames now hating their home (technically oldest in NHL) and no new arena in sight

The lottery should be a major marketing tool for the NHL but they are going with ping pong balls as if that will draw fans to the event. They need to think much bigger.
My vision would be a huge outdoor rink where each owner, at the wheel of a Zamboni, would compete in a demolition derby to earn those coveted draft picks. Have ESPN air this spectacle in prime time and watch the NFL kick themselves for not thinking of a similar idea.

Lol i would love 2 watch that…makes more sense than ping pong balls

Can you imagine the Islanders with the 1st and 2nd overall picks?

The Islanders are always going to have a hard time drawing fans away from the Rangers but having the top 2 picks could potentially help in that regard.

So how does this sound for Flames getting a 1st rounder back with a hockey trade. NYI need a top 6 LW and Flames need a right shot RW? Bennett, Brodie, and 4th round pick for Ho-Sang, Boychuk, and lowest 1st rounder from NYI (most likely 10-15 pick). Both young reclamation swaps with Bennett having a little higher pedigree and experience than Ho-Sang. Brodie being a fair 2-way defenceman for an experienced defencemen that knows how to play with Hamonic, and can give valuable experience for transition defencemen coming up for Flames. NYI keeping the higher 1st round and Flames getting a 1st round back? Sounds like a pretty fair trade…
